My experience includes practicing in both inpatient and outpatient community mental health settings while seeing a broad range of populations from depression to schizophrenia and children to adults. My work is devoted to helping people improve relationships with themselves, family, colleagues and their community. My services include a thorough evaluation, medication management and patient education.
I begin the initial assessment with a review of your current physical, mental and relationship strengths and areas of potential improvement. Also during the initial assessment, I like to rule out the medical conditions through basic lab work that might be the reason of your mental health issues.
My treatment plans are based on individual needs of my patients and the treatment plan can include medication for the diagnosis and if needed a referral for short-term or long-term counseling or psychotherapy.
Psychiatric assessments and short-term evidence-based interventions can provide tremendous relief. Although relief and hope should emerge within a few weeks of starting treatment, true change takes time. Our work requires regular meetings during times of high stress and times of relative ease. True change is possible through mutual understanding of your routine ways of relating and responding to stress and opportunity. Development of a therapeutic relationship is necessary for this understanding. At the beginning I see my patients twice a month to understand them, to build a therapeutic relationship and to determine if the treatment is working. Once the treatment starts working and the patient is stable I will see them either monthly or every other month. I spend time getting to know my patients personally and treat them in a holistic way to lead to a lasting recovery.
I believe in a multi-modal treatment approach and make referrals, when necessary, to well-established and reputable community therapists to fit the individual needs of you.
If you are interested in beginning treatment or seeking support with your current psychiatric or mental health issue, I am glad to be of service.
